Mannix College Welcomes New Director of Academics and Careers

Mannix College is delighted to welcome Dr Shaz Sivanesan as its new Director of Academics and Careers, bringing a rare blend of strategic insight, program leadership, and deep commitment to student development.
With a career spanning science communication, digital health, higher education, consulting, and youth leadership, Shaz brings a broad and contemporary perspective to academic enrichment and career readiness. She most recently served as Digital Health Program Coordinator at the Centre for Digital Transformation of Health, University of Melbourne, where she played a key role in national-level coordination, stakeholder engagement, and capability-building initiatives in digital health education.
Shaz has worked extensively across research, universities, community organisations, and government-linked programs. She is a strong advocate for inclusive STEM engagement and has delivered workshops and programs across Australian universities that support students, early-career researchers, and emerging leaders. Her background in science communication and education reflects a particular strength in translating complex ideas with clarity, energy, and purpose, while building values-driven learning communities.
Her leadership has been recognised both nationally and internationally. In 2024, Shaz was selected to represent Australia in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), participating in the program Empowering Women Leaders in STEM in the Quad. The multi-city United States exchange focused on leadership, innovation, and global collaboration.
In her new role, Shaz will play a pivotal part in shaping the academic culture of Mannix College. She will lead initiatives that strengthen academic engagement, support student learning, and enhance career development outcomes, ensuring residents are well equipped to thrive during their studies and beyond.
At the heart of Shaz’s work is a commitment to helping people flourish academically, professionally, and personally. Her approach is grounded in evidence-based practice, thoughtful program design, and a strong belief in student-centred education, with a particular interest in building confidence, resilience, and purpose in young people navigating complex learning and career pathways.
Reflecting on her appointment, Shaz said:
“Stepping into the role of Director of Academics and Careers at Mannix College is an extraordinary privilege. My passion has always been helping people discover their strengths, build confidence, and chart pathways that reflect both who they are and who they aspire to become. Mannix has a long tradition of nurturing not only academic success but whole-of-person development, and I am excited to contribute to a community grounded in care, excellence, and genuine belonging. I look forward to working alongside our residents and staff to foster an environment where every student feels seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.”
Principal Andrew Swan welcomed the appointment, saying:
“We are thrilled to welcome Shaz to Mannix College. Her work is deeply aligned with our values and our belief in whole-of-person education. Shaz understands that academic success, confidence, and belonging are inseparable, and she brings the experience and energy to help our students grow with purpose and ambition.”
