Living away from home often means leaving furry friends behind but at Mannix you can enjoy the company of Joe and Alma, our two furry celebrities. Belonging to Dean of Students & Wellbeing, Annie, Joe is a cheeky border collie boy who’s constantly sniffing out treats to eat and muffins to steal. Belonging to Business Manager, Dom, Alma is a lovely little cavoodle who loves sitting on laps, busy keeping Joe at bay.

Students are constantly visiting our adorable pooches to de-stress with a dose of cuteness and even getting some exercise by taking them out on walks. They greet everyone with butt wiggles, never failing to put a smile on everyone’s faces promoting a fun and happy culture throughout the College.

We are thrilled to announce that Mannix College has achieved Gold Accreditation under the newly introduced Residential Experience Standard (RES), becoming Australia’s first residential college to earn this prestigious recognition! This milestone confirms Mannix as a leader in student accommodation, underscoring our dedication to providing an exceptional, supportive, and inclusive community. Principal Andrew Swan shared, “This accreditation is a testament to our commitment to a safe, vibrant environment, making Mannix a premier choice for students seeking a secure and enriching residential experience at Monash University.” Highlights of the RES Accreditation: > Benchmarking Excellence: RES allows us to measure our performance against top student accommodation providers domestically and globally, setting a higher standard in Australia. > Independent Validation: Through this rigorous external assessment, Mannix College showcases a high-quality living experience, providing prospective students and stakeholders with the assurance of impartial validation. > Community Feedback: 70% of our residents provided detailed feedback, giving us valuable insights further to enhance safety, inclusivity, and student satisfaction. The Residential Experience Standard is a pioneering initiative by APSAA - Asia-Pacific Student Accommodation Association and UK-based Investors in Students (IIS), aimed at raising the bar for student accommodation through rigorous, evidence-based assessment. 🌟 Resident Spotlight: Lucy🌟 Originally from Ocean Grove, Lucy is in her first year studying Biomed at Monash Uni. Outside of her studies, Lucy is a passionate musician and enthusiastic community member. WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT MANNIX? “How it is such a safe and welcoming community which has helped me flourish and grow.” HOW DOES THE MANNIX CULTURE HELP PEOPLE TO FEEL THAT THEY BELONG? “The Mannix culture is very safe and inclusive. There is so much work put into different sub-committee groups such as queer and mental health, which allow like-minded people to connect and grow together. Overall they have always gone out of their way to make sure you have someone you can talk to.” We’re so lucky to have Lucy as part of our Mannix family! 🤗💫

This week, as part of our pre-exams wellbeing initiatives, we’ve brought in pinball and arcade games for everyone at the college to enjoy. Mannix Young Hearts is bridging generations! 💕 This semester, our students have been connecting with residents at Corpus Christi Aged Care Residence, sharing stories, learning new skills, and building lifelong memories. Our partnership with @vmchvic fosters a vibrant sense of community, enriching lives across generations. At our final Formal Dinner of the year, we celebrated the importance of recognising hidden disabilities and fostering an inclusive community for all. We also took a moment to thank our 2024 student leadership team for their dedication and hard work, while welcoming the 2025 MCSS Committee, led by incoming President Polly Lewis, who steps into the role following the outstanding leadership of Fletcher Smith.
