2023 Distinguished Alumni Award: Dr Katie Allen

The Mannix Awards program recognises alumni and staff who have demonstrated significant accomplishments in their personal and professional life, or for service to their community, state or nation. Winners are announced at the Gryphon Gala.

Dr Allen joined Mannix in 1984 from Albury to begin medical studies at Monash.

A graduate in Medicine and Surgery from Monash, she later earned her PhD from Melbourne University and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in Paediatrics and the Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.

Dr. Allen is renowned in medicine for founding the Healthnuts study, the world’s largest food allergy research project, and holds leadership roles at Melbourne Girls’ Grammar School, Monash University’s Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute, and the Eating Disorders Family Association.

Her political career as the former Federal Member for Higgins was marked by her advocacy for allergy research, contributions to Australia’s COVID-19 response, and clean energy initiatives.

Juggling a notable professional career with raising a family, including two Mannix alumni, Dr. Allen’s achievements are a testament to her dedication and impact in medicine and politics.
